Abstract:

In this project, we develop quantization and variable-length source codecs for the feedback links in linear-quadratic-Gaussian (LQG) control systems. In the prior literature, the schemes used to demonstrate the (near) achievability of known lower bounds on codeword length for fixed control performance implicitly require time-varying codebooks. For single-input single-output plants, we prove that it suffices to consider time-invariant quantization and source coding. We will also discuss ongoing work on extensions to multiple-input multiple-output plants. This result follows from analyzing the long-term stochastic behavior of the system’s quantized measurements and reconstruction errors.
