Bio: Dongwoon Bai is a Senior Director with Samsung SOC R&D Lab in San Diego. He was previously with AppliedMicro. He received the S.M. degree in applied mathematics and the Ph.D. degree in engineering science from Harvard University. He has co-authored 30+ papers and holds 30+ patents (issued or pending) in two broad areas of communications (4G/5G, physical layer, signal processing, information theory, statistical inference) and multimedia (AI, computer vision, SLAM, mathematical optimization, computational photography).

Abstract: In this talk, to showcase systems engineering challenges, the speaker will present a statistical signal processing problem related to receiver algorithm design, demonstrating how theoretical frameworks can be utilized to understand this problem.

Bio: Jung Hyun Bae is a Senior Principal Engineer at Samsung SOC R&D Lab in San Diego. He received Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering from University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. He is in charge of 3GPP RAN1 standardization and advanced research towards 6G as well as channel coding algorithm development for cellular modem. He has also been involved with developing baseband algorithms for cellular and Wi-Fi modems.

Abstract: In this talk, key potential technologies for 6G physical layer are presented as well as a contribution of information theory in cellular communications. The speaker’s 6G-related research on deep learning based channel code design is also discussed.
